Alina Kirschs artistic practice explores essential dichotomies such as «illusion and reality», «good and evil», and «control and chaos». She explores the visual potential of these contrasts to question our perception. Her work examines how we construct our reality as a reaction to fear, making reference to gender, tradition and morality.
Alina Kirsch draws inspiration from nature, the domestic, psychology, fairy tales, kitsch and symbolism. She works in an interdisciplinary manner, employing a variety of media and techniques that embody the interplay of ambivalence at the core of her practice. Soft, fuzzy, and shiny materials contrast with hard, rough surfaces. She merges intricate details with material-oriented approaches, spontaneous photographs, and everyday objects.
In a complex balance between security and discomfort, humour and melancholy, optimism and despair, Alina Kirsch bridges inner and outer realities. Her works are driven by an ongoing exploration of the stories we tell ourselves, the search for truth, and a way of dealing with it.
